Waysay Wednesday

Posted on July 23, 2025November 10, 2025 by Seth

One of my friends recently visited Denmark, and over dinner a couple of nights ago (yes, I do in fact go out with friends, sometimes), she excused herself, saying, “I need to visit the waysay.” I was intrigued, as I’d heard this before in a streamer friend’s stream but missed their explanation, and when she came back, she explained that waysay is a reference to WC – or Water Closet. And when they annunciate it, it comes out waysay. So this could easily be my “nonsense” or “silliness” category. Or…things I think about when I am in the bathroom.

Which reminds me – I just realized I don’t think about people when I am in the bathroom. Rather, I don’t take my worries with me. Perhaps I should install a mini fridge and a stereo system…nah. It’s a good thought, though.

Anyway, in this case, last night was pretty rad. I’m still waiting for my new job schedule to arrive as two corporations complete a hand-off of some things, so I hopped into Guild Wars 2, and found that WvW rush is going, which is one of my favorite events in the game. I am the big suck at world vs world competitions or pvp in general, but when I remove all need to perform, I’m oddly pretty good…against people who match my caliber.

There were many moments where blobs of the red team or the blue team were trying to break in to one of our forts, and we successfully fended them off — not only that, we managed to fight them all the way back to one of their claimed resources and take control of those, too.

A brief rundown of how taking keeps and such works in GW2: break down the outer door or wall, sometimes there’s a second door or wall and you have to break that down, too. Rams for doors, catapults for walls. After that, you fight your way to the Lord, a champion-level, sometimes even legendary depending on the tier of the place you’re taking, down him/her/them, and stay in the circle as it changes ownership. When it’s changed over, the walls automatically repair, which is nice. Pick up supplies and don’t forget to harvest the material nodes before you leave for the next objective!

One time, we were defending from blue, and they managed to get all the way to our Lord. Red came in behind blue in an attempt to back door their efforts, effectively downing each other for us. We cleaned up the mess and took it back. But we weren’t finished. Red’s nearest spawn point was clear across the map, as was blue’s, but there was a decently sized contingent of Red still outside the outer wall, which was still down since we saved the keep and there was no hand-off. We fought them to their resource, and did loops around nearby houses fighting each other. We bottlenecked them, corralled them, and the team I was with managed to stun all of them. I managed to get in the middle and hit skill 5 on my double axe bar (I run a Sylvari Power Soulbeast as my main) and they just melted under the spin as well as all of the AOEs that my team dropped on the stunned reds.

It. Was. Glorious. After the battle was over, I had 57 heavy loot bags in my inventory and a huge grin on my face. I got so much loot during the four hours I was playing – I think I counted 87 chests, crates, bags, and random things to open. There were at least 300 unidentified armor pieces to open, and just…it was great. Plenty of high tier materials to help with my next legendary weapon, too.

The only thing I regret was not taking any screenshots. Which…this is what it looks like:

I’m on a potato PC but this is Lassairie, my Sylvari Soulbeast atop her warclaw. I’m on my potato laptop since my graphics card bit the dirt on my PC for the moment, so the graphics are kinda ick (plus, it’s nighttime in game).

The fight last night started at Ascension Bay and ended at Redvale Refuge – shortened to Bay and Redvale in chat – and Redbiar didn’t even get touched.

I’ll share more pics as I go, today (until I finish this post, at least). Or not, I managed to get a keep while I was there so I uploaded it (along with the choppy audio, sorry am lazy)

Anyway, so I got into the battlegrounds, went and started farming nodes, and saw a group going to McLain’s Encampment, where we were luckily not opposed and quickly dispatched the champion, then flipped the keep for team green (that’s us). Even nicer that there was another group of us who were 90% done with it all when we got there. The last four minutes was just me opening all the loot.

I gotta go, but this was a ton of fun, and GW2’s core game is free and absolutely worth checking out. It’s friendly to both the casual and the sweaty, has extremely detailed builds as well as low impact/easy mode build and rotation options, and is cheeky as heck with the quality of humor. Plus, the story is excellent, and the voice cast is absolutely amazing. Did I mention the graphics? Even at potato quality like I showed in the video, it looks grand.

There’s a reason this is my “quiet time” game – it’s my hideaway game when I don’t feel like socializing. The game is full of players, full of life, and even if you play solo, there’s still others around who will pitch in simply because of the necessity of the events that everyone likes to do. Example – there’s a meta event that goes on in The Silverwastes people call RIBA (named after the Red, Indigo, Blue, and Amber forts on the map). It doesn’t matter what time of day it is, there’s always a big group doing it — literally 24/7. It’s been that way for ages. So you can log in at 3am and there will be someone wearing the commander tag and leading everyone to completion.

Not a lot of negatives to say about this game. Every big thing you do is a labor of love and leaves you feeling like you’ve actually accomplished something. Legendary weapons, for example, can be grindy, but again — the finished product makes it worth the effort. (And Leggos, as they’re called, aren’t absolutely necessary, just a huge thing to go for if you’re into crafting and such).

I could go on and on and on, but I’m finished with the waysay (no I did not post this from my bathroom).
