The Perfect Day for a Bad Cold

Posted on November 4, 2025November 10, 2025 by Seth

I have a cold, as the title suggests. It’s an icky one. About a week ago, I started sneezing…a lot. Three days ago, I came down with heavy congestion (not the productive kind) that progressed with my ears being so clogged that everyone sounded like they were in the back of the room or not speaking into the telephone receiver. Finally, this morning, I woke up with body aches, especially from the hips down. With no fever, I know it’s not a major virus or flu, but I’m definitely feeling too icky to do anything physical without the assistance of ibuprofen. So it’s an indoor day.

This is why I avoid setting goals that involve going places to achieve them, aside from my walks. I can make up tomorrow’s 2.5km jaunt later, should I feel like I do now, or heaven forbid worse. I’m also lucky enough that my job is on my schedule, aside from unexpected necessities and weekly maintenance. It’s why I have both indoor and outdoor options. I don’t know when my anxiety is going to force me back into the safety of my blankets out of misplaced fear or unnamed reasons (because sometimes I don’t even know why my anxiety is so bad, and I can’t figure out how to manage it besides jumping into said bed). That, and unexpected things like the rare case I fall ill enough to avoid normal activity.

That’s the good thing, though. I have indoor options, and today, I had the pleasure of checking off a few of my physical, recreational, and mental goals. I had an amazing stretch session, which actually helped the body aches a bit due to promoting circulation and getting my lymph system to let go of some of the fluid buildup from the inflammation. I met my macros, and I found an amazing audio book called Pax Romana: Silence Over Rome, which has had me hooked when I first listened to it this afternoon. I had to listen to it a second time to make sure I heard the whole story, and I plan to listen to it again just to catch the details. It’s that good.

It’s written edited by Nolan Kelly and produced by him and Alix Wilton Regan. The cast is absolutely disgusting saturated: every single person involved is so well known that you can’t say there’s a star, only that Devora Wilde plays the role of the protagonist (at least for Chapter 1) and the narrator. Not only that, but every actor is either female or afab nonbinary, and the male roles are more than enhanced by this feature.

The story so far involves a commoner who gets her big break while working her way through several near-misses and going through a couple head first. I don’t want to give too many details, but there’s smithing, archery, and even bigger archery involved, as well as a silver tongue and gold.

Chapter one’s out now, and two is due to drop on November 11th.

I made some chicken corn chowder for dinner, and am trying to get the motivation to play a video game before going back to bed, but I’d really just rather be in bed and play something on my phone. Hopefully I can break this ick before it gets too deeply embedded. I finally was able to set aside time to work on some game writing this week, and don’t want to have to walk a half-marathon at the end of it to make up for lost time…
