PHP #010.5: Fun Afternoon (Cards, Lamps, and Feeling Blessed)

I did go to the card show! Getting there took a bit of radical stealth care. I didn’t want to make a trip “all the away across town” (it wasn’t, it was at a hotel in the middle of town about 3 miles away), so I stopped at a five and dime to get cat litter and cat food…and treats, of course. It was after that when I nudged my car northward for the show.

The show didn’t really have much in the way of Magic the Gathering or hockey cards, but there was a TON of Pokémon people.

When I got there, I got into a conversation with one of the sellers, who got out of me that I do love Snorlax. She gave me a freebie card to commemorate my christening into Pokémon card collecting!

I purchased three packs, and she let me know that the local card shop/ttrpg place has an auxillary shop that recently opened, so I made a point to check it out. On the way, I stopped at a thrift store to look at their lamps. They had exactly what I was hoping for:

Simple, wrought-iron, and down-to-earth, nothing fancy, and nothing overstated. It kinda fits Mom’s vibes. It looks nice, it is unbreakable (practically), and serves an important purpose without taking up the entire area or making so much noise that it drowns out the room.

I then stopped at the new shop to see what they had to offer, and found a new dice set to compliment my oathbreaker character. Just holding them gives me a weird combination of courage and renewed commitment.

The white and gold represents perfectionism (piousness via purity) and appearances (personal value based to possessions), and the blood represents what he had to go through to get away from all of it. Some of the red is very dark, so you know those are deep wounds.

I also may or may not have signed up for TTRPG nights while I was there (we shall see, *evil cackle*).

Out of the three packs I purchased, I got these two gems:

My favorite about these two is that I know both of t hem, so it’s even sweeter to get a fancy card and know who it is. It’s the same way with sports cards, you get a really sweet looking card and if it’s a team you dislike or a player you don’t know, the excitement becomes “eh” or “oh.” Nothing against teams or players, it’s just how you react. What catches my eye, though, is seeing 133/132 on the Bulbasaur card. Casual searches show nothing significant, but I think it’s interesting enough, even if it’s just card number 133 out of what was initially going to be a 132 card set.

I got home, got Tommie situated, and … you just have to see this:

Tommie never got to meet my mom, but the day we got that recliner moved over, she’s always preferred it. From my chair at my desk, it’s a beautiful reminder of what I hold dear to my heart, all in one corner. And I know, it’s just one corner in my living room, but it really feels like my tiny flat is starting to become a home. I do feel really blessed to see this.
